Description |
| Conceptus manufactures and markets an innovative and proprietary non-incisional permanent female birth control procedure.
| Products / Services |
Conceptus' Essure is a permanent birth control device that serves as an alternative to tubal ligation that does not require incisions or general anesthesia. The procedure is performed in an outpatient setting, and women who have the procedure usually resume regular activities within 24-48 hours.
| Technology / Differentiation |
| The Essure system uses a soft and flexible micro-insert that is delivered into a woman's fallopian tubes to provide permanent birth control by causing a benign tissue in-growth that obstructs the fallopian tubes. The Essure micro-insert obstruction prohibits the egg from traveling through the fallopian tubes, thereby preventing fertilization and pregnancy. The Essure procedure has been demonstrated in a small portion of the women undergoing clinical studies to be 99.74% effective based on 5 years of follow-up.
