Description |
| PhotoMedex develops proprietary excimer laser and fiber-optic systems for treatment of cardiovascular and vascular disease and for dermatological applications such as psoriasis.
| Products / Services |
The company's XTRAC excimer laser is used for the treatment of psoriasis, vitiligo, atopic dermatitis and leukoderma. PhotoMedex's surgical products include a Contact Laser that can cut, coagulate or vaporize tissue. The company also offers a range of laser services in the areas of urology, gynecology, orthopedics and general surgery. With it's acquisition of ProCyte in 2005, PhotoMedex added a line of skin care treatments to its product portfolio.
| Technology / Differentiation |
| The XTRAC 308 nanometer excimer laser is the first FDA-approved laser treatment for psoriais. It is indicated for patients with stable localized mild-to-moderate plaque psoriasis (about 80% of psoriasis cases), especially for patients whose plaques are recalcitrant to topical therapy. By focusing the energy exclusively to the psoriasis plaques, the laser avoids potentially detrimental exposure of normal skin to UVB energy, and with fewer side effects.

| Market / Customers |
The company will sell directly to dermatologists, plastic and cosmetic surgeons, spas and salons, and through licenses with strategic partners into the consumer market, including its long-term worldwide license agreement with Neutrogena, a Johnson & Johnson company.

| Strategy |
Domestic XTRAC revenues are generated from per-procedure fees charged to dermatologists. PhotoMedex will soon initiate a direct-to-consumer marketing campaign for the treatment. International XTRAC revenues come from the sales of the equipment through a network of distributors. Since the launch of the treatment in 2000, PhotoMedex has been very active, and successful, in seeking reimbursement approvals. It targets 100% reimbursement compliance in three years. The acquisiton of ProCyte diversified PhotoMedex into the skin care products business. In addtion to increasing distribution for ProCyte's products, PhotoMedex plans to cross-sell its existing product line to ProCyte customers and to use ProCyte's national sales force to market XTRAC.

The company introduced the XTRAC phototherapy treatment system commercially in the U.S. during the year ended December 31, 2000.
