‘OneMedForum’ Panel to Address the Major Opportunities in Digital Health at San Francisco Conference
Peter Neupert and Jack Young to Address ‘Software in Connected Health and Aging Population’ Panel during OneMedForum, January 7-9, 2013
NEW YORK–(BUSINESS WIRE)–OneMedPlace announced today that Peter Neupert of Health Evolution Partners and Jack Young of Qualcomm Ventures will participate in programming for the 6th Annual OneMedForum, January 7-9, 2013, in San Francisco. The two experts will take part in a panel dedicated to ‘Digital and Connected Health,’ an emerging sector with significant and diverse investment opportunities.
“The panel, entitled ‘Connected Health: Technology in the Hands of Patients Changes Health Delivery: A Brave New World of Medicine,’ is an important theme for this conference”
“I have been following Peter Neupert since he founded Drugstore.com, one of the first and most important dotcoms,” said Brett Johnson, CEO of OneMedPlace, producer of OneMedForum. “Peter has been at the forefront of innovation as both an entrepreneur and a technologist. He has unique insight into the role of communications in healthcare delivery.” At Microsoft, Mr. Neupert led the Microsoft Health Vault, responsible for driving the company’s strategy to improve healthcare around the world through software innovation. He is well-versed on the challenges and opportunities in empowering individuals to become more engaged and responsible for their own health and wellness. He now brings his unique perspective to Health Evolution Partners.
Qualcomm Incorporated launched the $100M Qualcomm Life Fund (QLF) last December. The QLF is managed by Qualcomm Ventures, Qualcomm’s investment arm, and its charter is to focus on investing in venture-backed digital/wireless health start-ups, including the areas of wellness and fitness, chronic disease care, remote diagnosis and monitoring, healing and aging in place, health informatics and tangential spaces.
Jack Young, who leads Qualcomm Ventures’ investment effort in digital/wireless health, sees a developing trend in the aging population and the role that telemedicine can play in managing chronic care. Tools to better communicate with patients and manage healthcare represent both a critical need and a significant opportunity. Qualcomm just announced a new investment in ClearCare, which provides a SaaS technology platform for home care agencies serving seniors who choose to age at home. In addition to ClearCare, the QLF has six portfolio companies: Airstrip, AliveCor, Cambridge Temperature Concepts, Sotera, Telcare and Noom.
“The panel, entitled ‘Connected Health: Technology in the Hands of Patients Changes Health Delivery: A Brave New World of Medicine,’ is an important theme for this conference,” Brett Johnson added. In addition to a session with experts, OneMedForum will showcase public and private companies with some of the most intriguing innovations in this space. Public company presentations will be webcasted live at OneMedTV, available globally to the OneMedPlace investor network.
